In Spring 2021, changes to the login process for MyNCBI went into effect. Below are some FAQ about setting up and logging into MyNCBI:
Q. What if I don't have a My NCBI account?
A. If you don't have a MyNCBI account, to create one you will need to use one of the 3rd party partner sign-in options. Signing-in via a partner account will create one for you automatically with the MyNCBI wizard. The wizard may ask you a few questions the first time, but after that you can sign in to MyNCBI without entering a username or password as long as you are logged in to your partner account.
Q. What partner account should I use?
A. We recommend you use Google to also access your Google Scholar account, but you can use any of the 3rd party options. Click Sign in with Google. You will receive a confirmation e-mail from NCBI. Confirm your email address to complete this process and start the wizard that will walk you through the process. Please note: Only a personal Microsoft Outlook account will work as a 3rd party sign-in; your CM email address will not work. Researchers can also log in with their NIH or ERA commons credentials.
Q. What if I do have a MyNCBI account?
A. If you do have a MyNCBI account and you log in, you will get an invitation to update how you sign into NCBI using the wizard. Your old log in will be retired, and all of the information in your MyNCBI will be kept. Your account is not going away. The way you log in has changed.
Step 1: Click "Log In" at the top right hand corner.
Step 2: Scroll to "New Here" at the bottom of the Log In options and select "Sign Up"
Step 3: Select the type of 3rd part account you would like to use to create your account. You are welcome to use any of the options; however, Library Services recommends using a personal Google Account. Note: In this instance the Microsoft option refers to a personal Microsoft account (such as an @live.com account) and NOT an institution account (such as your CM account).
Step 4: Continue the sign in process via the set up wizard. Note: When on campus the link to the Google Account above may be blocked. To prevent this, log into your Google Profile first, then select the Google Account and continue the sign in process via the set up wizard.
