Peer Review Overview

What is Peer Review?

Peer review is a process designed to assess and evaluate the quality of manuscripts and research before they are published. The process involves independent reviewers from various research areas to review the work and determine the validity of research.

How do you know if a journal is peer reviewed?

Most journals will include information about their peer review process either on their “About” or “For Authors” page. Check out the following journal pages for examples of how peer reviewed status is displayed.

New England Journal of Medicine

Journal of Pediatrics

Pediatrics

Journal of Trauma Nursing

Pediatric Research

Academic Pediatrics

Keep in mind just because a journal uses a peer review process does not mean everything published in the journal is peer reviewed.
